Avalabetta hilltop, is not a very well known place but was one of the most awaited trip in my checklist. The funny part about this place was, none of us knew how to pronounce this name correctly!! Then I got to know from my friend how this place got its name and then I could remember and pronounce this name correctly. 'Aavu' means cow and 'betta' means hill in kannada so its a cows hill!!!
Coming to why this combination , Avalabetta and Lepakshi....., we wanted to go for a 1 day trip and the minimum charge for cab is 300KMs. Avalabetta is 80kms from Bangalore , so roundtrip would still be less than 300kms and roaming locally in bangalore with this outstation cab is not allowed.
Therefore we googled and found that lepakshi is around 30-40kms from avalabetta and finalised this plan 'Avalabetta + Lepakshi ' . Avalabetta is 40kms from Nandi hills . Finding the route to Avalabetta is not at all difficult and you can just follow google maps. You just have to follow NH to Hyderabad and when you reach Perasandra take a left from the fly over . The way is also very beautiful and scenic , you can see many grape farms on the way. As you go a little ahead , you will find yourself in a small village. At that point our mobile data stopped working. But we managed to reach the hilltop with the villagers help
The best time to visit this place early morning, reach there before 6am and view the sunrise. This place is famous for a floating rock. There is a small pond and floating rock connected to it. As soon as you reach you will find steps and if you keep following steps you will reach a temple, take right and you will reach a small pond and then if you go little ahead you will reach this place. The view from the path way is also very scenic.
We started from marathahalli at 4am and reached avalabetta at around 7am. we started back from Avalabetta around 9.30am and reached Lepakshi around 11am had breakfast and visited Lepakshi temple. Lepakshi is of high architectural importance and also well known for hanging pillar. The temple architecture depicts the marriage of lord Shiva and goddess Parvathi. According to mythology When Raavana abducts Sita devi , Jatayu came her rescue and Ravana cuts its wings and the bird falls in this place . Sita devi puts her feet impression here , from which a thin line of water comes and the bird survived drinking that water. The lepakshi Nandi is considered as the biggest nandi in India
After visiting Lepakshi , we started back to Bangalore , had lunch on the way and reached Bangalore by 5pm . For people who want a short and relaxed one day drip , this is a very good option
